Game Day is Upon Us

Hello to all of the members of the 2009 Elijahu Cup. The NHL season is drawing to a close and playoff action is highly anticipated. The pressure is on current champion-manager Yoni Dayan to prove he's got what it takes to lead this year's standings. He'll be facing intense competiion from an irascible pack, hungry for their own ambitions of achieving legendary Elijahu Cup glory. Who will be the first to drink from the cup?

This year's intensity comes after a long stretch of conditioning during the 2008-09 regular season. Ari Shack is in fine form: training, writing contracts, and eating ginger beef. Michael Friedman has sequestered himself in the training grounds of Eastern Canada, skating the Rideau Canal. In a bid to terminate the spirit of Hockey Glastnost Alex Gubanov has begun coaching the latest edition to the Russian force, Zachary Gubanov, the "Ivan Drago" of Hockey. On his return from a scouting mission in France, Jack Dayan was seen cavorting with Alexander Semin at Dulles International. During pee-wee play, Michael Horowitz was identified sporting his "Jewlongo" jersey. Michael Dayan is back from heavy haggling in Israel, with the glorious sparkling Elijahu Cup in-hand. Managers, fasten your skates, Game Day is upon us!

Note: a few items are up for discussion (1) setting a time for team selection that will work for both Western- and Eastern-based managers, (2) establishing rules around "ties" and other such matters of good governance, and (3) bringing in expansion teams.
